Rauser on Licona

Since I'm behind on my work thanks to the latest kidney stone, I'll take this week's entry to offer a link to Randall Rauser's blog in which he discusses the Licona-Geisler controversy. This again reflects why I consider it so important that Tekton retains its independence from other entangling alliances.

  1. What's particularly frustrating is how (looking at the comments on Rauser's blog) this clash is being used to justify a distrust of biblical scholars, for, the resoning goes, what if they are only holding to certain views to stay in line with those institutions putting doctrinal pressure on them?

  2. Such is overdone of course, since it fails to differentiate between "holding" views and speaking out about them. As a preterist, my home (SBC) church would not likely let me teach a class on the end times, but that doesn't mean I secretly hold to a standard dispensational eschatology to make them happy.

  3. The really sad thing is that the comparison's Rauser makes to the Catholic Church are disturbingly accurate. Since when did we lose the protest in Protestant?

  4. @rolo Maybe since Geisler became the evangelical pope.
